Vision of Glory was a church plant in 1960. Two congregations of the ELC, Oak Knoll Lutheran and Golden Valley Lutheran worked together to start a new congregation in the growing suburb of Plymouth, MN. Thanks to the financial support from Our Savior's Lutheran and Glenwood Lutheran it proceeded with the newly formed ALC. The church began meeting in Beacon Heights Elementary School with an altar brought over every week to the gym from a member's garage from next door to the school. Soon they bought property along Highway 55 and the ALC began the first part of the building project. The Reverend Irving Stangland was called in 1961 and his first order of business was to name the new church. He had three names we was deciding between when he asked a group of students in Vacation Bible School to decide and they chose Vision of Glory, which is found in Ezekiel 43:1-5. Pastor Leland Evenson was called to VOG in 1968 and served until 1995 as Senior Pastor and until 1998 as Associate Pastor. He saw VOG through many changes, building programs, staff changes and growth. Also serving as Pastors have been Pastor Tom Parrish and Mark Herringshaw, Pastor. Before Mark Herringshaw's leadership the decision was made to leave the ELCA and join with the Association of Free Lutheran Congregations. Currently, Pastor Scott McLaughlin is serving as our Senior Pastor. He began his ministry here in September of 2006. He was called here from a congregation in Canon Falls, Minnesota. |
